STANDARDS
In Texas, land surveying practices commonly conform to one or more written standards. By law, all boundary surveys must conform to Rule 663.13 of the General Rules of Procedures and Practices promulgated by the Texas Board of Professional Land Surveying (TBPLS), commonly referred to as the Minimum Technical Standards.
In addition, the Texas Society of Professional Surveyors (TSPS) Manual of Practice details more stringent standards for a variety of types of surveys and conditions. The American Land Title Association and American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (ALTA/ACSM) has developed standards for land title surveys normally used in the commercial market. Both of these standards are voluntary and can be specifically requested by the client.
