January 20, 2006

2005 will not be forgotten by anone in this Chapter for many years to come. Business and life in general was good until September 22nd when mandatory evacuation orders were given to all local inhabitants to flee the impending landfall of Hurricane Rita. The strong category 3 storm slammed into the area with the eye coming ashore near Sabine Pass located at the souther tip of Jefferson County and the the state line between Texas and Lousiiana. Many homes and businesses were damaged. Some beyond repair. The storm surge wiped out much of the town of Sabine Pass. As bad as the sotrm was, we are thankful that we were spared the devastation that it could have been if the sotorm had stayed a category 5 as it was before it made landfall.

The Annual Chapter Meeting scheduled for September 21st, just days before the storm hit was cancelled. In the months following, members attended to the repairs of their homes and restarting their businesses. With the ongoing recovery efforts, the October Sporting Clays events along with other scheduled chapter events were also cancelled.
