Welcome to the Deep East Texas Chapter No. 6 homepage!
One of twenty-four local chapters across Texas, Chapter 6 is located in Southeast Texas and serves members in Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Newton, Orange, and Tyler counties. The chapter serves to aid and contribute to the education of its members and the general public in attaining high surveying standards, both technical and ethical; and to provide a closer association of its members.
Members of Chapter 6 are active on both the state and local levels, working on issues important to both the surveying profession and the general public. The chapter supports the recruitment and education of young surveyors by participating in High School Career Fairs, Trig-Star, and through scholarships awarded to college students in Texas.
Members are also active in the community working with other professional organizations, schools, and participating in local Habitat for Humanity projects. Chapter members played a vital role in the recent Spindletop 2001 Commemoration and Celebration Project by locating and monumenting the original Lucas Gusher well site. This historical site was the location of the oil gusher that fueled the founding and growth of future oil giants Mobil Oil, Texaco, and Gulf Oil.
